“The beauty of the natural world around me is often my muse in body art,” says tattoo artist Mikayla Hyland.
Known for her elegant botanical designs, Mikayla’s work celebrates the connection between creativity and care — blending art and science with intention and empathy. Her pieces reflect the quiet strength and balance found in nature, expressed through a deeply personal artistic lens.
Alongside her custom body art, Mikayla also practices medical tattooing for clients recovering from trauma or surgery — work that bridges compassion and technical skill.
Having completed Body Art Training Group’s Bloodborne Pathogens training, she understands that true professionalism begins with safety — a foundation that allows artists to create confidently and responsibly.
“I’m excited about my PhD work in demonstrating the therapeutic benefit of tattooing,” she shares, “and all of the potential innovations left unexplored.”
Her advice for other artists:
“Sometimes the right way isn’t the easy way. Invest your time in quality training and don’t cut corners.”
We’re honored to feature Mikayla — an artist who reminds us that tattooing can be both expressive and transformative. You can find her custom and medical tattoo work on her website or on Instagram.
