Our Roots in Public Health
Body Art Training Group was founded by Kathy Hartman, a former San Diego County health inspector.
While working at the county:
- Kathy led the body art program and spent 15 years helping tattoo shops, piercing studios, and permanent cosmetics studios develop and maintain high standards of practice.
- She wrote body art safety standards for the California Conference of Local Health Officers and drafted body art safety regulations for the California Department of Health Services.
- She received the Distinguished Service Award from the California Environmental Health Association (CEHA) for helping improve body art safety in California.
Today, in addition to managing our company, Kathy adds to her expertise with ongoing volunteer work on the Model Body Art Code Committee of the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) and on the Body Art Committee of the Association of Food and Drug Officials (AFDO).
