Protect Your Body. Protect Your Career.

Tattooing puts a lot of stress on your body.

You sit for long periods in awkward positions. You bend, lean, and twist. You make repetitive movements while working with a vibrating tattoo machine. Over time, these activities can put stress on your muscles, bones, tendons, nerves, and joints.

What Does the Research Say?

Few scientific studies have examined work-related health problems among tattoo artists, but research from The Ohio State University has documented substantial physical discomfort among working artists.

In a 2014 study of 34 tattoo artists, researchers reported that 94% reported back pain, 88% reported headaches, and 85% reported neck pain.

A later Ohio State study measured muscle exertion while 10 tattoo artists worked. All exceeded recommended exertion limits in at least one muscle group, and some were considered at high risk for injury.
